How to Set Up Your Office for Productivity

When employee productivity is at an all-time high, expect a significant revenue boost in your company. Employee productivity is what every employer aims to achieve to ensure that customers are happy and the organization is up to speed. Unfortunately, some people don’t know how impactful a work environment is for productivity. So if you’re wondering why you can’t seem to complete daily tasks in the office, maybe it’s time for an office overhaul. Here’s how.

1. No distractions

One of the culprits that can decrease productivity is distractions. Once you’re into the task at hand, try not to stop your train of thought. The moment you’re distracted, it can take a while to concentrate and focus on the task again.

Go to a place with no distractions. If you’re working from home, stow away things that might distract you, gadgets, pets, books, television, food, and more. See if you can go to another area aside from your bedroom to work as you might find it tempting to lay down on the bed to rest.

If you’re working in an office, make sure you clear your workstation of any distractions or avoid talking too much to your colleagues. Moreover, take breaks as often as you can but make sure you don’t take long breaks.

2. Place all tech on silent

People check their social media channels every once in a while. And once they’re locked into their mobile phones, it can take them minutes up to hours to browse. You want to avoid having access to your phones and gadgets when you’re working. That said, ensure that all your devices are on silent mode. The best way you can avoid checking your phone is by not getting tempted by those notification sounds.

3. Remove notifications

Speaking of notifications, it’s better to turn off all notifications from all your phones and gadgets. Also, turn off the notifications from your laptop, especially those coming from social media channels opened from your browser.

What you can do, though, is to install software that temporarily blocks you from opening unwanted websites while you’re working. You can set a time for the software to prevent you from opening websites that might hinder your productivity. This way, you can work straight without hearing those messages and posts from everyone.

4. Use two screens for work

If you want to increase productivity, invest in another computer screen in the office. Using dual monitors brings a myriad of benefits. For example, you can open your email on one monitor and continue working on a document on another.

Moreover, having another second monitor means you can keep your creativity flowing. Let’s say you’re working on a design for a project while collaborating with your teammates about it. You can open your messaging app on another monitor while continually revising the design according to their input.

5. Pen and paper within an arm’s reach

Sometimes the traditional route is the most effective for increasing productivity. You might have a helpful idea that comes up. Write every idea down so you’ll return to it later. Also, when you have your pen and paper at an arm’s reach, you can jot down reminders when your colleagues have input or feedback about specific projects. Otherwise, you’ll only forget and miss out on important information just because you forgot to write it down.

Conclusion

Setting up your office for productivity doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg save for the additional monitor. Before doing these tips, you can write down the things that distract you. Go over them and set up your office for a highly-productive workstation. That way, you’ll make the best out of every workday.
